Meet the friendly staff at Maplewood Animal Hospital!

  • Dr.
    David Rabkin
    Dr. Rabkin grew up in Long Island, NY, and from a very early age he felt with certainty that he wanted to be a veterinarian. He has always felt an overwhelming desire to advocate for the well-being of all animals. He attended Veterinary school in Turin, Italy and practiced on Long Island for 15 years before moving to Bellingham and establishing Maplewood Animal Hospital. He considers his work at Maplewood AH to be a labor of love, and remains after more than 30 years of practice, energized, impassioned, humbled, grateful and honored to be a part of this profession. Some special areas of interest to him are orthopedics, dermatology and reproduction. Dr. Rabkin feels blessed to live in this magical part of the world. He enjoys snow sports, hiking, biking, kayaking, gardening and playing ice hockey. He happily shares his life with his wife, daughter, one dog and 4 cats. Dr. Rabkin can be contacted at

    Christine Monroe

    Dr. Christine Monroe grew up on a horse farm in Michigan. She started riding at 2yrs old, showing horses at 5 yrs old and they continue to be her biggest hobby. Spending time with them helps keep her happy. She graduated with a BS from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI and earned her DVM degree in 1993 from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, East Lansing, MI Moving to Ferndale, WA in 1998, Dr. Monroe began working at Maplewood Animal Hospital in 2000 and became a Co-Owner (with Dr. David Rabkin) in 2009. She shares her small hobby farm with her fiancé, Todd, son, James and daughter, Jolie, along with an assortment of dogs, cats, horses, goats, ducks, geese, chickens and pigeons. Dr. Monroe enjoys all aspects of preventative and diagnostic medicine, soft tissue surgery and she has a special interest in ferret medicine. She is also very happy and proud to provide services for many local rescue groups and shelters. Aside from her horses, Dr. Monroe is an avid sports fan. She is the #1 fan of her children’s sports which include Ferndale High School Football, Basketball, Baseball and Volleyball, and most recently the Central Washington University Wildcats where James will be playing football.     Alicia Andras
    Dr. Andras is a recent Bellingham transplant, by way of central Massachusetts. She grew up in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, and attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She has lived and practiced all over the country, including Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Idaho, Oregon, and now Washington! Particular areas of professional interest include health issues of large breed dogs, surgery, and Dr. Andras is newly certified to administer Veterinary Acupuncture. When she is not working she loves to spend time outdoors hiking, swimming, and skiing with her fiancé Mike and their three dogs.     Megan Burgmuller
    Dr. Megan Burgmuller grew up in Western Montana and decided she wanted to be a veterinarian in 3rd grade. With a love for animals and passion for science and medicine, she can't imagine doing anything else! She first fell in love with the Pacific Northwest when she attended the University of Puget Sound, in Tacoma WA. At UPS, she received a degree in Biology and participated on the varsity women's rowing team. During the summers, she returned to Montana to work as a whitewater river guide and volunteer at veterinary clinics. Dr. Burgmuller attended veterinary school at Colorado State University. Her interests include preventive medicine and soft tissue surgery. In her free time, Dr. Burgmuller enjoys traveling, kayaking, snowboarding, and hiking with her big white dog, Henry!   • Sionán O'Neill
    Hospital Manager
    A long time PNW resident, Sionán recently relocated to Bellingham. She has spent over 30 years in the Veterinary field spending time as a groomer, a receptionist, a Licensed Veterinary Technician and for 7+ years as a Practice Manager. She finds it exciting to watch the changes as medical advances help improve the quality of our furry kid’s lives. Her professional goals include making the hospital as stress free an environment as possible for the patients, the clients and staff. Her professional goals now include preparing for the exam to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager! Very Exciting!     Lead Reception
    Shelby is a long time local resident. She’s been with us for 5 years, but in this field for 17yrs! She loves getting to know all our clients and their furkids. When she’s not running our front desk, her family and family fur kids keep her busy with camping and sports. Given the chance she loves to curl up with a good book.
  • Bridget
    Bridget, originally from Brier, WA, moved to beautiful Bellingham in 2012. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, she decided to pursue her love of animals and entered the veterinary field as an assistant. Bridget fell in love with her work and will be attending Bellingham Technical College this fall to earn her LVT. When not at the clinic, Bridget can be found skiing and hiking in the Mt. Baker backcountry, swimming, or fly fishing her secret spot.
  • Laura
    Veterinary Assistant and Certified Laser Technician
    Laura has been with us since 2012. Her love for the animals is obvious in everything she does and we are grateful to have her here. She’s been around animals all her life, and earned her Certificate in Veterinary Assisting right after high school. She loves enjoying the natural beauty we have so close, and takes every opportunity to bike, hike, boat, run or swim. A love of the outdoors is a theme with our employees!

    Veterinary Assistant and Certified Laser Technician
    Heidi came to us right out of high school. She began as a hospital cleaner, and has worked her way to being an Assistant. Along with working with our patients, she also keeps our pharmacy organized. She has brought a lot to our clinic since 2009. She is currently working on her Veterinary Technician studies with the on-line Penn Foster program. When she’s not working or studying, she and her fiancé enjoy dancing.

  • Maddie
    Veterinary Assistant and Certified Laser Technician
    Maddie Is a local to the area. She’s worked in kennels and doggy day cares for the past 3 years. She’s excited to have moved into the veterinary field and enjoys learning new things every day in her new role as a Technician’s Assistant. When she’s not here, her time is filled with family, friends and hanging out with her dog.

    Veterinary Assistant and Certified Laser Technician
    Devin was born and raised in western Washington. He has been in the veterinary field since 2012, working at clinics in Everett, Mt. Vernon and now Bellingham. What interests him the most about the job is animal behavior as well as working with wildlife. He is one of our Assistants who has earned a Certificate in Therapeutic Laser for Companion Animals. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys doing community theater, cooking, and spending time with his dog, Zima.

    Hospital Cleaner
    Leanne is a student at WWU completing her prerequisites for Veterinary School. She has worked around animals for about 10yrs and loves the varied experiences she has had. We appreciate her hard work, keeping our hospital clean and ready for each day’s adventures. When she’s not at work, she’s running Bellingham’s trails with her dog, or just hanging out together watching movies.
